Rosseti South increased expenses on its environmental program by 12% in 2023

13.03.2024

In 2023, Rosseti South allocated 37.7 million rubles to implement the environmental policy program in the regions of the company activities. That’s a 12% increase compared to the previous year. The funds were allocated for the protection of water bodies, atmospheric air and land resources, environmental monitoring, and equipping of overhead power transmission lines with bird guards.
As a result, the energy company reduced wastes by almost 5% and greenhouse gas emissions by 3%. The amount of waste (including scrap metal, IT equipment, used tires, wiping material) transferred for recycling and neutralization increased by 5% and had been about 4.9 thousand tons by the end of the year. 184 trichlorodiphenyl-contained capacitors which belong to hazard class I and are irreparably harmful to the environment and human life in case of improper disposal, were decommissioned.
In order to protect atmospheric air, Rosseti South monitors pollutant emissions and checks the efficiency of gas purification facilities. Groundwater monitoring and laboratory control of wastewater quality are carried out for the purpose of rational use of water resources. To improve environmental safety, oil circuit breakers are being replaced with vacuum circuit breakers and oil-filled bushings are being replaced with solid-insulated bushings.
To preserve ecosystems and biodiversity, more than 5.5 thousand bird guards were installed on transmission line supports in Astrakhan, Volgograd, Rostov regions and Kalmykia. This equipment allows us to protect birds from electric shock and reduce the negative impact of their nesting and life activity on power transmission lines, and thus on the reliability of power supply to consumers.
